Who we are
We are a group who believes in being the hands of God to at risk girls in Osorno, Chile SA. The girls are put there for their safety by the Chilean court system. We go there to fix, replace and clean up equipment, buildings and dangerous machines.
CHWT was born in a small church that had people willing to go far from home and help those in need. After four trips to Hogar El Alba, CHWT was organized into a 501c and started a photo website to document what God has allowed us to do in serving these abandoned, abused and orphaned girls in Chile.
Each year we organize activities here to generate work funds used there. The goal is to fix what can be, replace what has to be and reduce operational costs for the Hogar. For example the new deep chest freezer uses 50% less electricity than the ancient one did.
The Hogar is an enclosed site with multiple small houses for the girls, several large play areas, a small library, a large kitchen, a big laundry, a bakery and several staff houses.
Osorno is located in the farming section of Chile between the Andes mountains and the Pacific coast, just south of the volcanic Mount Osorno. The soil is very good there and grows food very well - you may have had some of those giant Chilean grapes in the winter from this area.
Each team member pays all of their own travel and boarding costs - we pay the Hogar room and board so we can stay there, work more and interact with the girls and staff all day. Volunteer and team members work the fundraisers here, while 100% of all money generated goes directly to the girls.
They teach us to be happy with a lot less.
